Pupil Parliament

Our Pupil Parliament

At Rushy Meadow we actively promote pupil leadership opportunities, enabling your child to develop valuable communication and organisation skills.

We believe that providing pupils with key roles of responsibility is paramount to their development and learning experience.

Our successful Pupil Parliament is a well-respected body within the school and consists of pupils between Years 1 and 6. There are two representatives for each class one for Wellbeing and one for Teaching and Learning.  All pupils have the opportunity to run as a class representative. They fill out a form explaining why they would make a good member of the Pupil Parliament and then a decision is made by the class as to who will be appointed.

Children involved in our Pupil Parliament meet once every two weeks with the heads of their parliament  to discuss topics, issues and initiatives that affect them and their learning environment.  Mrs Iuliano and Miss Baterip run Wellbeing meetings and Miss Knox and Mrs King run Teaching and Learning meetings.

There is a detailed agenda for each meeting and minutes are taken. The team share new ideas and vote on a number of school-related issues.  As part of their responsibilities each representative has a book to record the minutes and tasks.   Actions from each meeting are shared with the rest of the school on a regular basis.  Pupils relish the opportunity to become a greater part of school life and enjoy making their voices heard.
