Sports Premium Funding

Our aim at Rushy Meadow is to ensure all children reach a high standard of physical development. We do this through the teaching of PE and by encouraging children to lead a healthy lifestyle. We also aim to establish a sporting culture that enables and encourages all children to play and enjoy sport. Using the Primary PE and Sport Premium Funding, our school endeavours to enrich the PE curriculum in a sustainable way and to increase sports participation for all our children.

What is the Sport Premium Funding?

The Primary PE and Sport Premium Funding is additional funding provided by the government to improve provision of physical education and sport in primary schools in England. In 2012, the government pledged £150 million per annum for at least the next 3 years to support PE and school sport in primary schools. £150 million was provided per annum for academic years 2013 to 2014 and 2014 to 2015. The funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport. The government have also announced a further commitment to PE and sport until 2020 if they are elected in the next general election. This funding goes directly to our head of school so they can decide the best way to use it.

We are required to put information online as to how we have used the funding to support pupils’ progress and participation in PE and sport. This includes details of sporting provision as well as curriculum details. This enables parents, carers and others to be fully aware of the PE and sporting opportunities Rushy Meadow provides.

How is the Sport Premium Funding allocated?

The Sport Premium funding is allocated to each individual school by the payment of a lump sum. Schools with 17 or more eligible pupils receive £16,000 and an additional payment of £10 per pupil.
