This Week’s Learning – wb 11.09.23

In maths this week, the children have continued using their place value counters to read, write, count and order numbers with thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones and also started using Gattegno charts to add and subtract thousands, hundreds, tens and ones!

In English, we have  written our own knowledge organisers all about the Amazon rainforest and chose our own rainforest animals to write about – they look fantastic and we are going to spend some time presenting them to go up on display next!

In our geography lessons, we learn about the 4 layers of the rainforest and the different plants and animals that we might find there. We create interactive work all about this to show what we learnt in our new humanities books!

Next Week’s Learning – wb 18.09.23

In English next week, we will are very excite to welcome Zoolab into school on Tuesday (thank you to everyone for your prompt payments for this1). We will then use the experience to write about animals from the rainforests using our firsthand knowledge. We will now be able to use adjectives, similes and onomatopoeia much more effectively having to be able to see, touch and hear these animals!

In science and geography we will be looking at the habitats of the rainforests and classifying different animals we find there.

In art we will continue our artist study around Henri Rousseau and consider his sketches and the animals and plants that he drew.

Bonjour!  This week we have been learning how to say our opinions of different sports.  Next week we will continue to practice this with listening to real French people talking about sports.  You could practice numbers at home by playing some of these games

This Week’s Learning – wb 4.09.23

Welcome to Year 4!  We have been so impressed with how well the children have returned to school – they have embraced Year 4 life beautifully!

In maths this week, the children have already started looking at 4-digit numbers and have used place value counters to read, write, count and order numbers with thousands, hundreds, tens and ones.  Pop over to our gallery pages to see us hard at work!

In English, we have started researching and planning our information texts about rainforests. Pop back next week to see how these turn out.

In our geography and science lessons, we have started to look at where rainforests are located around the world and what animals we might find in rainforests. We have watched films about the rainforest and loved coming dressed as an animal from the rainforest too!  Head over to the gallery page to see all of our amazing costumes!

Next Week’s Learning – wb 11.09.23

In English next week, we will start the week by gathering vocabulary we can use in our information texts. We will need to use fronted adverbials and conjunctions to expand our sentences and engage our readers.  Then we will be ready to start writing up our information texts.

In maths, we will be partitioning 4-digit numbers and look at other ways to represent them. We will use part, part whole models so be sure to ask your children what these are if you haven’t come across them before!

In geography we will be describing the 4 different layers of a rainforest and sorting different plants and animals we might find in the different layers.

In art we will begin an artist study around Henri Rousseau with a view to studying his work carefully and completing a piece of work in is style by the end of the half term.

Bonjour!  This half term, we will be learning how to say different sports in French and give our opinions.  This week we have been learning how to say some sports in French and looking at some of the similarities with English words.  We will also continue to practice numbers from 1-12.  You could help at home using this video
