This week have been comparing the beach in the past to the present. We have then explored our senses. We learnt what our 5 senses were. We even got to test out our taste buds by having ice lollies on Friday. At the end of the week we wrote an acrostic poem as a class, thinking about what we might experience at the beach.

In maths we covered a range of topics – we looked at our teen numbers, our number bonds, shapes and even our two times table.

Next Week's Learning - wb 26.06.23

Next week we will be looking at the story of the Rainbow fish. We will be writing our own rainbow fish story during the week and completing activities based on the story.

Unfortunately we have some unwanted visitors in reception.

Head lice (Nits) have been noticed in reception so we are asking that everyone checks their child's hair and treat appropriately. If they are left it will continue to spread. The quicker people respond the easier it will be to treat.

I have attached a leaflet for your information. If you have any questions please speak to your child's class teacher.

This Week's Learning - wb 12.06.23

This week have been comparing the beach and Carshalton. We have made lists of things that are the same and different. We have also looked at maps of the beach and Carshalton and talked about what looks the same on the map and what looks different. We have learnt what a map is and that there are different maps for different purposes. We have learnt some of the key features of a map such as what a key is. We also had a go at making our own maps.

In maths we have recapped our doubling facts, learnt about near doubles and learnt what happens when we add odd and even numbers together.

Next Week's Learning - wb 19.06.23

Next week we will be looking at the beach as it was in the past and comparing it to the beach now. We will be looking at the clothes people wore and the activities they did. We are also going to be exploring our senses and think about what we would see, smell, touch, hear and taste.

In Maths we are going to cover a range of topics. We will be exploring number, pattern, number bonds and shapes.

Please can the children wear sun cream, sunhats (named) and have a bottle of water with them as the weather is now getting warmer.

We are able to support the children with applying suncream, but cannot do it for them, so we would suggest putting the suncream on before school.

Please can we also make sure all jumpers are labelled.

If you have borrowed any spare clothes or underwear please can you return.

This Week's Learning - wb 06.06.23

This week we started our final topic of the year - – Do you like to be beside the seaside?  We started the week by reading Lucy and Tom at the Seaside. We had a think about the things we could do at the seaside. We learnt about the things we need to do to stay safe at the beach, such as, looking out for the flags, staying with a grown up, wearing suncream and a hat and staying in the shade during the hottest part of the day. We also learnt about pollution at the beach and how it can affect our planet. We came up with a list of things we should do to keep our planet clean. We even had a go at making posters that tell people about why littering is bad.

In maths we have explored odds and evens. We learnt what an odd and even number are and how to spot them using numicon. We also learnt that there is a pattern with odd and even numbers. We also learnt that all odd numbers end in a 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9 and even numbers end in a 2, 4, 6, 8 or 0. We used this knowledge to say whether a given number was odd or even. This week we also learnt about more and fewer. We looked at quantities of things and which was more or fewer. We then looked at the numbers themselves and discussed if they were more or fewer.

Next Week's Learning - wb 13.06.23

Next week we are continuing with our topic. We are going to be comparing the beach to Carshalton and seeing what is similar about them and what is different. We are also going to be learning about maps and having a go at making our own.

In maths we are going to be recapping doubling. We are going to be making sure that we can say our double facts to 10 off the top of our heads.

Thank you for all your support this half term. We have had such a busy half term and have had lots of fun.

We are back to school on the 6th June.

Our class photos are on the 8th June.

This Week's Learning - wb 22.05.23

This week have been reading lots of stories. We have looked at Little Red Riding Hood, Three Little Pigs and Jack and the Beanstalk in depth. We read the stories and then discussed the beginning, the middle and the end. We identified the characters, setting, events, problems, resolution and ending. We then looked back at our own stories and read them to a partner. Our partners then identified all the key aspects of a story that we have learnt.

In maths we have been consolidating our knowledge of finding more and less. We learnt how to find 2 more and less using a numberline and tens frame.

Next Week's Learning - wb 05.06.23

After half term we will be starting our new topic – Do you like to be beside the seaside? We will compare the seaside to Carshalton, thinking about what is the same and what is different. We will also be looking at the key features of the seaside.

Our class pictures will be on the 8th June, on this day all children will need to be in full school uniform.

Please can you get your children to practice taking their jumper on and off independently, the weather is getting warmer and they will need to do this frequently. Please can all jumpers be clearly labelled with names.

This Week's Learning - wb 15.05.23

This week we have written our own fairytale story. We first learnt that a story needs a beginning, middle and an end. We thought about what needs to be included at the beginning – the characters and the setting, the middle – the events and problems and the end – the resolution and ending. Each day we wrote a different part of our story. We came up with our own characters, setting, events, problems and resolutions. No two stories in the class are the same. We worked really hard to use all of our phonic knowledge to sound out words and write down what we could hear.

In Maths we have recapped finding more and less. We are now able to find more and less on a number line and using a tens frame.

Next Week's Learning - wb 22.05.23

Next week we are finishing up – Can I be an author? We are going to be reading a range of fairytales and identifying the beginning, the middle and the end. We will be using our phonic knowledge to read the stories independently and create a love of reading.

In maths we are going to be looking at doing 2 more and 2 less on both a number line and using tens frames.
