In Maths this week, we started learning about the 12 hour digital clock and the 24 hour digital clock. We did really well on this!
We then moved only converting hours, minutes and seconds – this was a little trickier so we will spend a little more time on this!
Bonjour! This week we have been designing our own Lego mini figure characters. Could you ask your child at home to describe some of the features of their character in French? Next week we will begin to write our descriptions of our Lego characters.

Also, please let us know if your child suffers from or has the potential to suffer from travel sickness!
This Week’s Learning – wb 1.05.23
In English this week, we had great fun learning how to be excavators and archaeologists! We used drama to act out how Basil Brown and Edith Pretty felt when they uncovered Anglo-Saxon treasures in Sutton Hoo. Then we had our own patch of land to excavate where we found Anglo-Saxon coins, pottery and even iron rivets! Pop over to our gallery page to take a look at these!
In history this week, we have looked at the treasures found at Sutton Hoo and made educated guesses as to whom these could have belonged to. We took a look at the whole hoard that was found at Sutton Hoo using the photographs on the British Museum website. If you get a chance, we highly recommend a visit to the British Museum to see these in person as the children were all very interested in them!
In Design and Technology this week, we cut out our hulls for our Viking longships. We painted them to look like they would made from wood. Please can we ask that you have a painting t-shirt ready every Thursday while we continue to make our longships – it is messy work!
In Maths this week, we continued our learning about time. We looked at 5 minute intervals and then 1 minute intervals. Lots of us are still finding this tricky so our home learning task is linked to this!
Bonjour! This week we have used adjectives to describe a person’s character. We also described how big or small someone is. Watch this video on how to say sizes in French. Next week, we will be designing our own Lego mini figure characters.

This week we have been looking at the impact of deforestation on the environment. We have some very sympathetic and empathic children in Year 4 and they are very keen to get involved and do their part in supporting zero deforestation pledges.
In topic this week, we have been writing each day about the impact of deforestation on animals, plants and then humans. In Year 4, we have also focussed on using fronted adverbials for every sentence to really push out how awful the implications are. Our work of the week was ‘anticipated’ and we were very impressed to see how some of the children even managed to get this into their writing! We can’t wait to show you these at parents’ evening.
In maths this week, we have been looking at Roman numerals. With the use of help sheets, the children were able to crack codes written in Roman numerals!
Later in the week, we moved onto negative numbers. The children were fantastic at using negative numbers in calculations and even saw the pattern when counting through 0 to a negative number.
Bonjour! This week we have continued to look at adjectives to describe animals. You could watch this video which shows “Cher Zoo” (Dear Zoo) read in French. Your child could then identify some of the animal words and adjectives that we have been learning. Next week we will begin to write a “Bizarre Animal” poem.
Next Week’s Learning – wb 10.10.22
Next week in topic, we are going to take part in a class debate about the negative and positive implications of deforestation. We are then going to be writing a persuasive letter convincing a large company to try harder at reducing deforestation.

In Maths we had the tricky task of placing 4 digit numbers onto a blank numberline. We all did extremely well when the numberline was numbered, but it was a bit harder to work out when the numberline was blank! However, as always, Year 4 put their utmost effort into working this out!

The finished leaflets will be going to Year 3 to help them when they start in Year 4!
In Maths this week, we have continued using place value counters and grids to add and subtract thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones from 4-digit numbers. Take a look at our fantastic work on the gallery page! We also introduced Gattegno charts to help with this too.
There have been no fluency or arithmetic tests this week as we have been completing baseline activities, but next week they will start again. Children will bring home marked fluency and arithmetic tests each day so that you can see where you may need to support further at home.
