Safer Internet Day - Tuesday 8th February 2022

All fun and games? Exploring respect and relationships online

Safer Internet Day is an international holiday celebrated to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones across the world.  Parents and carers can find out more about this by clicking here.

On Tuesday, we will be taking part in activities and an assembly to promote an awareness of how to keep safe when online.  We will also be talking about the CEOP ( Child Exploitation and Online Protectionbutton with our KS1 and KS2 pupils.  This is a button that we can find on many websites, including online games.  We click this button to report online abuse or something that worries us and it takes us directly to the CEOP command centre where we can make a report. (children, parents, teachers etc can all use this button)

This is what the button looks like:

Mrs Briggs, the Digital Learning Lead, has ensured that this button can be found on many relevant pages of our school website and is now setting each of you a challenge.  How many buttons can you find on our Rushy Meadow Primary Academy website?  You will need to check that all of these buttons are working by clicking on them. Let your class teacher know how many you found using your online learning platform (Tapestry, Seesaw or MS Teams).

In maths we have been learning to add two numbers together by making 10 first.

Next Week's Learning Week Beginning 12.10.20

Next week we will be learning all about explanations. We will read lots of explanations and identify their features. We will also use the explanations to gather vocabulary for our reports. We will be planning, writing and editing an explanation for the life cycle of a butterfly.

In maths we will be learning to subtract using bridging.

Stars of the Week 9.10.20

Well done to Amelia-Lily and Daniel.

This week's Learning 02.10.20

This week we have been learning all about instructions. We have read instructions and identified what all instructions need to have and gathered language we like from instructions. After that we planned and wrote our own instructions on how to make salad.

In maths we have been learning our number bonds to 10 and 20 and finished the week by adding two one digit numbers together.

This week we have been very excited to see our five butterflies emerge from their cocoons.

Next Week's Learning wb: 5.10.20

Next week in topic we will be learning all about dogs. We will be learning what dogs need to survive, how to help them and what happens if they don't get what they need. We will be using this information to plan, write and edit a non-chronological report about dogs.

We will also be having another visit from our school dog and interviewing Ms Bretherick on what Elsie needs to stay healthy.

Next week in maths we will be learning to add tone digit numbers to two digit numbers bridging the tens. We will be using our ten frames, Dienes and counters.

Stars of the Week 02.10.20

Well done to Kharlel and Tommy.

This Week's Learning 25.09.20

In topic this week we have learnt what makes a healthy diet and designed a healthy lunch. We have also really enjoyed designing and making a salad. We learnt how to use the bridge and claw methods of cutting the vegetables and all tried what we had made. There are pictures in the gallery.

We moved our cocoons into the butterfly net and described how they have changed over time.

In maths we have been finishing our unit on place value. We have been comparing and ordering numbers. We have also revised what we learnt about odd and even numbers and used this to help us sort numbers.

Next week we will be learning about the features of instructions and writing instructions on how to make a salad. We will be learning to write commands and learning how to use bossy verbs.

Our butterflies are still in their cocoons, but we are really hoping they will hatch next week so we can start to see them eat.

In maths we will be learning about patterns we can see when we add odd and even numbers together. We will also be learning to add numbers together using ten frames.

Well done to Lullena and Georgie.

Welcome to Kestrels

18.09.20

This week we have all been very excited when watching our tiny little caterpillars grow and start to develop inside their cocoons and have been sitting at the little table watching them every day. In topic we have worked hard when writing our Tadpole’s Promise stories. We have been practising using full stops and capital letters in our writing. We also researched and ordered the human life cycle. After this we considered what humans need to survive and made posters.

In maths we have been exploring how to partition (split) numbers into different amounts of tens and ones. We also looked at how to find the missing part when we knew one part and the whole number.

In other lessons, we learnt about the features of a Synagogue in RE and have been enjoying our new PE lessons.

We were also very lucky to get a visit from Elsie, the school dog, and are hoping she will come for another visit soon.

18.09.20

In topic we will be learning all about healthy diets, designing a healthy lunch and using this to help us design a salad. We will be describing this using adjectives. We are hoping that next week we will be able to put the cocoons into the butterfly net and watch them start to develop into butterflies. After this, we plan to write about the life cycle of butterflies.

Next week in maths we will be comparing the size of numbers using the language of greater than, less than and equal to. After this we will be ordering numbers and researching patterns when we add odd and even numbers together.

Well done to Daisy and Oltis.

We have had a great first week in Year 2. This week we have been learning all about the life cycle of a frog and have been reading the book ‘Tadpole’s Promise’. We have learnt to retell the story and act it out. We have also researched  the great new adjectives in the book and started to think of how we could use them in our own sentences. One of the highlights of the week was getting a set of caterpillar’s which we are going to watch turn into butterflies.

In maths we have been learning about the value of each digit and have started to explain how many tens and ones are in different numbers. We have learnt to partition numbers into tens and ones.

This week we have also started to think about what worries we have and how we can talk about these with people around us.

Next week in topic we are learning how humans change as they get older and writing our own version of Tadpole’s Promise. We will be taking pictures to show how our new caterpillars are growing so we can understand the life cycle of a butterfly. In maths we will be learning how to partition numbers in different ways. We will also be learning to compare numbers using <,> and =.

Stars of the week 11.09.20

Well done to Kenzie-Leigh and Binar.

Topic this term

This term our topic is ‘Growing Up’. We will be learning to explain how different animals and humans change as they get older and describe how some animals metamorphosise while others don’t. We will have caterpillars in the classroom and watch as they develop into butterflies. We will be learning about healthy diets, making a salad and identifying how to live a healthy lifestyle. When making a salad, we will practise how to use a knife safely and how to prepare food hygienically. We will also be learning how to write instructions and start to edit them to ensure they are be precise. Finally we will be learning how to look after different pets and writing non-chronological reports.

Welcome to Year 2 - 4.09.2020

Welcome to Year 2, I hope you have had a great summer and are raring to go.

Please remember your drop off time is between 8.45-8.55 am  outside the classroom. Pick up is at 3.20 outside the classroom.

Your child may bring their packed lunch in hard, plastic, wipeable lunch box (clearly named), a named water bottle and a small school bag to carry their reading book and reading diary.

P.E is on Thursdays and Fridays – please ensure your child comes to school wearing their school P.E kit. Please remove earrings in the morning and tie back long hair.

Due to the pandemic your child will be given one reading book per week. They will choose a new book on a Monday and return it to school on a Friday – this gives us the weekend as the 72 hours quarantine to ensure books stay clean.

Please ensure your child reads daily and records their reading in their reading diary. We will be hearing your child read on a weekly basis and will move them up the reading scheme as required. If your child finishes their reading book before Friday, please do use the Oxford Owl reading scheme online.

The Topic for this term is Growing Up – please see the blog next week for further information.

Thank you,

Miss Sims
