  • End of term

Fri 17 Dec 2021 Ms Bretherick

Well, we have made it to the end of term!

Thank you all so much for the support you have given the school this term.  The children have had a successful term and that is because of the strong partnership that exists between the whole school community.

I hope you all have a lovely Christmas and get an opportunity to spend time with your friends and family.  [Fingers crossed we are allowed to do that!]

I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.

[Children return to school on Wednesday 5th January 2022]

    Best wishes

    Ms Bretherick

  • Christmas Jumper Day

Thu 09 Dec 2021 Ms Bretherick

On Friday 10th December children can come to school wearing their Christmas jumper for a donation of £1.00 which will be given to Save the Children Fund.

We realise that many of our Year 6 pupils will not be able join in so we are having an additional day where the children can come to school in their jumpers.  This will be on Wednesday 15th, which is the day of the school Christmas lunch.

We look forward to seeing all the wonderful sparkles, bells and no doubt some flashing lights too!

    Best wishes

    Ms Bretherick

  • Rules and Values

Sat 18 Sep 2021 Ms Bretherick

We have had a very smooth start to the term and I want to thank you for helping us make sure your children settled so well and have been ready to begin learning in their new classes.

In my weekly assembly I am talking to the children about our Rules and Values.  I have been very impressed with the way the children understand how to behave and support one another.

    Best wishes

  • Wecome back to school!

Sat 04 Sep 2021 Ms Bretherick

We have welcomed back the children in Years 1 to 6 .  It has been lovely to see them, the teachers have already said what a pleasure it has been to hear all about their acitivities during the summer holiday.

We have also welcomed parents, carers and children in our Nursery and Reception to our Stay and Play days.  We look forward to these children joining us full time over the next few weeks.

    It's brilliant to be back!

  • Summer holiday has arrived!

Fri 23 Jul 2021 Ms Bretherick

We have made it to the end of term – what a year it has been!

The pupils have been amazing this year.  We are very proud of how they have coped with lockdown, bubbles, isolation, home learning…the list goes on.

We wish all our Year 6 pupils every success as they move on to their secondary schools.  I know I can speak on behalf of all the staff to say they have been a pleasure to work with this year.  I look forward to seeing them pop back next term to tell us how they are getting on at their Secondary school.  Goodbye Year 6 – we will miss you!

    Finally…

Thank you for all the support and encouragement you have given the pupils and school this year.  All the staff appreciate it very much.  We hope you have a great summer break.

Stay safe and well and we look forward to seeing you in September.

    Best wishes

    Ms Bretherick

  • Summer sport

Wed 30 Jun 2021 Ms Bretherick

In my assembly this week I talked to the children about all the wonderful sporting events that are happening around the world right now.  For example, Euro Football, Wimbledon tennis, Tour de France, Formula 1 and of course the Olympics that will hopefully start very soon.  Many of the children knew about these events.

I hope you are all enjoying the feast of sport that we have taking part right now!

In my assembly I also spoke about the qualites of succesful sports people:

    DRIVE

    FOCUS

    DEDICATION

    DISCIPLINE

We talked about how important these qualities are for us all to have in everything we do.

I know the children will try hard to display these qualities when they take part in their sports day next week.  I hope they can show these qualities in everything they do.

    Best wishes

  • Fantastic news!

Fri 14 May 2021 Ms Bretherick

As part of the Walk to School initiative, Rushy Meadow took part in a Nationwide competition called the Big Pedal run by Sunstrans: https://bigpedal.org.uk/

Every day over a ten day period, teachers recorded the number of pupils who were walking, cycling or scooting to school and being active after school.

I am delighted to say that the official results are in, and I am so pleased with them.  Out of all of the schools in Greater London, Rushy Meadow came 2nd with 97.03% of children walking, scooting or traveling to school.  Out of all the schools nationwide, Rushy Meadow came 13th

WOW! Well done to all our pupils that helped us reach this position.

Thank you for all your support - next week is national walk to school week - let's see if we can get 100% of pupils walking, cycling or scooting to school.

Thank you to Mrs Green who has been leading on these projects.

    Best wishes

    Ms Bretherick

  • Welcome to the start of the summer term

Mon 19 Apr 2021 Ms Bretherick

It has been lovely to welcome the children back to school in gloriously bright sunshine.  I hope that you enjoyed the Easter break.

As always, your child's teacher will keep you informed of events that are happening in school so do please make sure you check your child's year group page every week.

Something for you to know is that we have had some new bike racks fixed in the KS2 area [see the photograph]. This means that more children can now store their bike during the day.  We are really keen that children walk, scoot or ride to school.  Mrs Green is promoting this in school and she has some great ideas lined up for the term ahead.  Look out for information that is being sent home this week about the Big Pedal event.

    That's all for now.

    Best wishes

  • World Book Day

Thu 04 Mar 2021 Ms Bretherick

Today is World Book Day.  In normal times we would all be school, dressed up in our favourite book characters today.  This year we can't do that but we can still celebrate books and the importance of reading.  Mrs Lambert has organised a Rushy Meadow Masked Reader competition for everyone to take part in, whether at home or in school.  Your child's teacher will explain all about it.  Here is the link if you wish to have a look:

    https://youtu.be/uHukORhYAiE

Also, every child in school has also been given a book which has been donated by Sutton Libraries.  This is fantastic.  I hope your children enjoy reading their new book.

  • "Tomorrow will be a good day"

    Fri 05 Feb 2021 H Bretherick

    Hello everyone,

This week we all heard the sad news that Captain Tom had died.  We learnt about his amazing achievements of last year when he raised over £33 million pounds for the NHS.  I spoke about Captain Tom in an assembly earlier this year, so I know that the children know about him.

One thing he was renowned for saying was, "Tomorrow will be a good day".  This is such a powerful message for us all right now, we must keep reminding ourselves that things will get better.

As we near half term we are still unsure when we will open fully.  I will of course, keep you informed about when Rushy will fully open as soon as I receive guidance from the DfE.

One thing I do know is this, the day I hear that we are fully open will definitely be a GOOD DAY.  Everyone in school is looking forward to welcoming all the children back.

    Stay safe everyone.

    Ms Bretherick
